The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI)
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is responsible for ‘Growing and Protecting New Zealand’. It’s no mean feat and we have a team of hard working and dedicated people in a variety of roles supporting us to make this happen!
About our team
The Business Technology and Information Services Directorate is part of the Corporate Services Branch within MPI. BTIS’s vision is ‘making business easier and better’ and our horizons remain to ensure we deliver to business outcomes as outlined in MPIs Information Technology Strategy.
To achieve our vision, BTIS has to be an exceptional service provider, a highly effective team, a creative innovator, change enabler and a responsive integrator between MPI, government, suppliers and industry. This an exciting time for us and we are looking for motivated team members to be a part of this.
As part of a recent realignment of the BTIS function we have created a Geospatial Practice Leader – one of four practice leaders – within Information and Insights to provide leadership to our geospatial practice, products and services. The Information and Insights team is responsible for managing the Ministry’s core information and data, supporting and delivering analytic services, providing advice, and leading and championing the use of geospatial, unstructured, nonspatial and digital library information and data.
About the role
This role will work across the Ministry, supporting practitioners, leading and developing our geospatial services and products and providing leadership around the possibilities that geospatial data and services offer us. The Practice Leader will also take point on our cross government geospatial relationships, and shaping our direction.
This is a new role, and the four practice leaders will work together to build an effective product ownership and practice leadership approach. They will work collaboratively as part of the Information and Insights leadership team.
You will be an experienced geospatial practitioner with a flair for building relationships, setting strategic direction and have a good understanding of product ownership. As part of the Information and Insights leadership team you will need to have an appreciation of the value of structured non-spatial data, unstructured information, and the possibilities of a digital library.
We are looking for someone who can bring together a practice, champion geospatial data and services, and keep us focussed on what is possible.
How / why to apply?
Our work stretches all the way from the Beehive to the border. If you want a career where you help to grow and protect New Zealand in a very real way then this is it. Our team is collegial, supportive and hard working. MPI has a focus on career pathways so this is the first step in your career with us and we will help you grow.
