Waikato Regional Council is now seeking an experienced Spatial Analyst to join their Spatial Information team on a permanent full-time basis.

We are looking for someone who can provide spatial solutions to varied and complex business problems. Someone who will use their GIS skills to visualise and analyse spatial data to create meaningful insight.

It’s a varied role covering a range of tasks including the creation and maintenance of datasets, analysis, modelling and mapping to produce a high standard of outputs. The outputs will be for both internal and external customers.

The successful candidate will also be involved with projects and responsible for leading some projects for the Spatial Information team.

This is an exciting role with constant new challenges coming on to the to-do list that require someone to have good problem-solving skills and the ability to find out and potentially grow their own skills to get a solution.

You will be part of a talented team made up of Spatial Analysts and Data Management Analysts who have significant workloads but have a great can-do attitude, team spirit and a sense of fun.

 

Requirements:

  • 3 years’ experience and understanding of spatial analysis and modelling
  • Knowledge and experience of:ArcGIS (preferably including ModelBuilder workflows)
    Python
  • Spatial and non-spatial databases (such as Oracle Spatial or Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Data transformation and interrogation tools (this might include FME, SQL Developer, SQL server management studio, MS Excel, MS Access or Toad)
  • Experience with Raster formats and processing
  • Some experience in managing or leading small projects
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • Strategic and tactical thinking skills
  • Political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues (including cultural sensitivity such as Te Ao Maori)
  • Proven success at building relationships and resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to deliver in a political environment that could be high pressure and rapidly changing
