Gregory Carr-Hyde

I believe I am a good candidate as I have a strong background in GIS data management and analysis (in the ESRI enterprise and EDAS enterprise suites) in my current position as well as in several of my previous roles along my career path providing experience in Desktop level, Server level and Mobile environment from an ESRI/ArcGIS Enterprise level perspective.
I currently have a degree (Hons) in Geography specializing in GIS/Remote sensing and Environmental Management. I have also completed all coursework for 4th Honors as part of my University experience.
In addition to this my current 4.5 years working for Sappi in the forestry industry has provided me with great experience in forestry management processes and GIS in a multinational company in the full cloud enterprise level of GIS service delivery. I have been able to interact with many levels of the business from Foresters to Senior Level Forestry managers and Forestry Planning departments. As a GIS analyst based in the IT division of the company I also interact with the back-end SQL management of the FMS (Sappi in house developed Forestry Management System) and so have a solid concept of how complex systems are managed from both a practical level and on digital systems beyond and including GIS. The experience has also given me the skills to reseach and deploy new technology in the GIS industry to Sappi international.
I have:
• Proven history of digital spatial data management and maintenance across several roles throughout my career. Especially in the following roles:
o GIS Technician at London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham – a role that required asset management from a GIS perspective, data maintenance of local cadasters and London road network maintenance and analysis as part of a GIS team.
o GIS software support Manager at Geo Data Design – this role provided training in remote sensing directly from ERDAS and added to the remote sensing studies I took at university. As well as interaction with South African forestry companies in the form of satellite imagery acquisition and remote sensing support. This role also taught me the ethos or customer service.
o Senior GIS Analyst at Sappi Ltd. – This role covers most of the Forestry management knowledge I have. Along with the GIS team I provide customized maps to any staff in the company that require mapping services, GIS training both on ArcGIS and in the mobile environment. Maintaining and updating the ownership information from property deeds also forms part of my role and I am currently training up a new colleague to assist in this regard and grow our team. Project initiation/interaction and project management also forms part of this role in the form or WebGIS development to provide users with access to our GIS and Forestry Management Systems and Ad-hoc projects that come up requiring GIS input. Providing results to the business and the users.

• I consider myself a good communicator and have solid experience of interacting with many colleagues to reach goals and provide GIS services that work for all involved. I’m adaptable and good at managing changes and enjoy developing my career (currently I’m enjoying learning more about coding and WebGIS development).

• Planning and problem solving are skills that I need to use daily to achieve successful projects in my current role and in previous roles. Most spatial analysis and WebGIS projects require a large amount of problem solving and by bringing together many different data sources, interactions, determinism and disciplines to reach a goal I believe I am results orientated and enjoy closing up projects. In my current role project planning and management are essential as I’m tasked with projects that come to the GIS department in my areas of specialization.
